As I think about 4 trips via plane in the next few months

"In the US alone, between 1983 and 2000, there were 568 plane crashes. Out of the collective 53,487 people onboard, 51,207 survived."

Thanks, BBC.

Um, I'm flying 4 times in the next two weeks. But aren't the stats for car crashes supposed to be way higher?

So the BBC is my homepage on my home and work computers. I like how they're really thorough and for every news story, there's always more background pieces to click on.

they are supposed to be way higher for cars. the article highlighted how it's great that you're so likely to survive a plane crash, contrary to popular opinion. still, there's something unnerving in the statistics.

in those 17 years, in the u.s., there were over 50,000 people who were in plane crashes (and survived). i mean, yeah, maybe 200 million people have been in car accidents in the u.s. (i have), but planes don't have fender benders.
